New Castle County has deployed mobile speed cameras on Milltown Road and McKennans Church Road effective April 15, 2026, to enhance safety in residential areas.
Enforcement Threshold: Drivers are ticketed for traveling 6 mph or more over the speed limit (e.g., 41+ mph in a 35 mph zone), a stricter standard than the 11 mph threshold initially planned or used in nearby Newark.
Active Zones: The cameras operate between McKennans Church Road and Duncan Road on Milltown Road, and between Milltown Road and Bardell Drive on McKennans Church Road.
Warning Period: A 30-day warning period began on April 15, 2026, during which drivers receive warnings; civil violations are issued by mail after this period.
Violation Details: These are civil penalties that do not add points to a driver's record or affect insurance rates, though regular police patrols for criminal speeding violations continue.
Camera Type: The system uses mobile, portable cameras operated by the third-party vendor Elovate, which can be repositioned within the designated zones.
